About This Course
This course specifies the outcomes required to safely conduct skid steer loader operations. This course includes training and assessment on the safe operation of a skid steer loader, including planning work, inspecting the machine, operating and shut down procedures.
Licensing, legislative, regulatory, and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors, and must be sourced from state jurisdictions prior to applying this unit.
This unit alone does not provide sufficient skill to independently load and unload equipment. To perform this activity safely, personnel must either complete or be assisted by someone who has completed the RIIHAN308F Load and Unload Plant or equivalent.

Course Outcome
On successful completion of the course, students will be issued with a nationally recognized statement of attainment (SOA) and a plastic photo wallet card.
Duration and amount of training
Total duration for this course is 24 hours (3 days) as follows for both skilled and non-skilled operators.
The course duration is 24 hours (including 20 hours of training):
- 10 hours of supervised theory instruction
- 10 hours of supervised practical instruction (simulated workplace)
- 2 hours theory assessment (written test)
- 2 hours of practical assessment

Entry Requirements
All learners enrolling in this course must demonstrate a sound level of language literacy and numeracy, Learners that do not achieve a sound result may still be enrolled into the course. These learners will be provided with additional support to be negotiated with their training and detailed in their enrolment form.
All learners must provide the following two upon attending the training.
- 100 points of identification upon enrolment
- Unique Student Identifier (USI) If this is not available please contact us
Safety Requirements
As a minimum, students participating are required to wear appropriate PPE, including;
- Steel Cap boots
- High Vis Shirt (no singlets will be permitted)
- Hard Hat
- Safety Glasses
Any other company/site-specific guidelines must be followed in accordance with CGA minimum standards.

Pathways
Learners completing this course will be qualified to operate a skid steer loader and may take up roles in the mining or civil and general construction industries.
Where the packaging rules allow, learners may be able to use the Statement of Attainment issued upon completion of this course as credit toward a full qualification such as RII30815 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations.
